Tempest Brave New World

Tempest Brew Co. were one of the stars of the 2016 Better Beer Fest KL, where one of their team from Scotland was showing a full range of beers and a rather dapper line in facial hair.

Along with other UK Craft Brew contemporaries, like Buxton and BrewDog, Tempest like BIG flavours in their beers. While many traditional brewers are happy to keep their core range relatively simple and save the tastiest treats for the seasonal and special edition brews, Tempest prefer to push out the big guns straight away.

They opened in 2010 having spent the previous ten years experiencing the best of a new breed of beers and flavours in Canada and New Zealand, before heading back to Scotland to bring it together.

Their Brave New World is a take on the new American IPA styles, but utilising hops from New Zealand and local barley malts. It's a rich IPA with hints of pine and citrus present without overpowering the sweet malt tastes. Well balanced and yet bitter enough to satisfy.

It pours a biscuity gold with a pale, not overly foamy head. And while it's not classed as a double IPA, it's still potent at 7% yet is a surprisingly easy beer.  If you're new to craft ales and are unsure if you would like a big flavoured IPA, you could start with their Long White Cloud Pale Ale, an excellent beer and great intro to craft beer.

I'm glad to say that I've yet to be disappointed with any of the Tempest range thus far and if you see any in KL it's highly recommended to jump straight in.

If you like Brave New World you could also look out for Buxton Axe Edge and Stone IPA.

You can take a look at more IPA's here.

2021 UPDATE:Tempest Beers are currently available in Malaysia. This is sad. *Wails*
