Rogue 7 Hop

Never ones to stand still, Rogue Ales have always taken pleasure in experimenting with the basics of beer. They happily try new ideas and pass it on to the customers with a knowing wink as if saying... "Go on, see what you think."

Beers with sour berries, chocolate, chilli sauce, tea, coffee, pumpkins and sea water have all been released over the years, tempting people to try something a bit different. But they also like to celebrate the basics of beer too.

Their numbered hop range of IPAs proudly declare the use of ingredients grown at Rogue Farms or taken from the surrounding area. Each beer uses the corresponding number of hop varieties and is brewed to the corresponding ABV. For example the Rogue 4 Hop IPA uses 4 hop varieties and is brewed at 4.44%.

With each hop variety mentioned on the bottle, it allows the drinker to appreciate the subtle (and often, not-so subtle) difference the change in the number and type of hop variety makes to a beer.

Most of this numbered range has made its way to Malaysia over the past 2 years and they're all pretty good. Bold and full of character. I've tried numbers 4, 6, 7 & 8 and I look forward to trying the Black IPA 5 Hop soon, as it's just arrived in country. Fingers crossed Rogue 10 Hop heads this way soon!

My favourite so far is 7 Hop. It's a powerful yet extremely well balanced IPA, with a deep caramel colour, rich aroma and toffeeish character. Not overly bitter, it still has a kick and is brewed at 7.77% (obviously).

It can be found in the various craft beer bars, often in large 650ml bottles, but occasionally you may find it as a 330ml bottle or even on tap, which is recommended.

If you like it, why not try Tempest Brave New World, Brewdog Jack Hammer or Buxton Axe Edge.
